In the 1920’s Vincent Chester Sr. (the company founder) lived on a tomato farm in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. This was long before the NYC terminal markets were even a thought. Next door he owned and operated a truck parts/salvage yard with mechanic shop. Through the 1930’s this enterprise serviced many of the open toped box trucks that worked the Brooklyn piers. It was not until 1940 when he met his new partner, a small freight trucker, who always needed his services. The men decided working side by side was a perfect match and they would run both operations together. SEA TRANSFER CORP. - NY Intermodal transportation experts were born.
The city of New York chose Hunts Point as their perfect distribution center and so did we. The location gives us the best access to all NYC boroughs, NJ, New England and of coarse the Hunts Point terminal markets.
As our industry evolved to containerization, and focused on the NJ ports a second terminal was established in Port Newark for tractors, warehousing and container storage. After years of dedicated work this proved the best way to provide seamless coordination of deliveries to all of the regional customers.
